COYOTES

1/13/09, a resident reported the following Coyote information:

"My backyard backs up to the open space area and walking trail. We have seen coyotes on the walking trail, on the neighborhood streets and walking next to our fences several times but now my neighbor spotted a pack of three coyotes walking down the trail.

Not only is this disturbing to us because of our pets but the trail leads to the Lone Tree Elementary School. Obviously the fact that they are packing up elevates the danger factor tremendously. "

There have been reports of coyotes attacking small pets in Heritage Hills.  Residents should protect their pets at all times and if they encounter coyotes.

  • Keep a safe distance away from them.
  • Make a loud noise and throw something at them.
  • DO NOT FEED Coyotes or leave pet foods outside.
  • Call the Colorado Division of Wildlife for more information (303-297-1192).

Residents are advised not to allow pets outside without close supervision.  A Coyote can easily leap an 8 foot fence or wall so dog runs or pens should have a roof or cover.

DO NOT FEED Coyotes or leave pet or bird food outside.

For additional information, you may call Lone Tree Police Animal Control (303-339-8150).
